Crossovers aren't the first thing you think of bout Cadillac but the American luxury automaker has set their sights on the segment. First with the XT5, Cadillac will soon be releasing a smaller crossover in the form of the XT4. It will be the smallest SUV in their range with the Escalade serving as their largest offering.
On top of that, it appears that they plan to offer it across a wider market as out spies have spotted a prototype doing rounds in Europe. The compact crossover is seen undergoing hot-weather testing in southern Europe. While it is still heavily camouflaged, expect it to get styling cues from its sedan and SUV stablemates.
A closer look at the car sees the signature pentagonal grill at the front. Also present are LED lights that grace the corners of the front bumper. More LED detailing can be seen on the headlights. Door-mounted side mirrors round up the look of the front end. Little details can be seen on its side but it is likely that it will get relatively flat surfaces with chrome detailing.
Over at the rear, it too is still heavily covered but do expect it to have high-mounted tail lights. This treatment is currently being used in the XT5 and Escalade. We do see a pair of rudimentary dual exhaust pipes, as well as large alloy wheels. Our spies also noticed an extra 'fuel cap' on the fender suggesting that this is a plug-in hybrid model.
Our spies say that the Cadillac XT4 will be gunning for the luxury compact crossover class. These include the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. They added that this particular car is bigger than its key rivals. Engines have yet to be confirmed but it might get a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo with a V6 being an option. Front-wheel drive is likely to be standard with all-wheel drive being an option.
