The name Dallara has been prominent in the world of motorsports. Since 1972, the name has been synonymous with open-wheelers and endurance race cars. For the first time in their 45-year history, Dallara is branching out to road cars.
Our spies have captured the street-legal Dallara out on the open roads of Germany. It is yet unknown if the car seen here is a test mule or sporting a production body. Either way, it closely resembles the endurance cars from the renowned race car builder.
The car itself is set low to the ground with the wheel arches being higher than the hood line. It also employs a canopy-style glasshouse and a wide rear end to accommodate the mid-mounted engine. Also present is a front splitter, ground effects on the side, an integrated diffuser at the rear and a large wing. Don't expect a lot of creature comforts on the inside but it is likely that air-conditioning will be available, if not standard.
In an interview with Autocar UK, Dallara himself said that the target weight of the car is set at just 800 kilograms. Our spies say that the engine will be sourced from Ford. It is likely that it will be an uprated version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine found in the Focus RS and Mustang EcoBoost.
With that engine putting out 350 PS in the Focus RS, the yet-to-be-named Dallara might have a power rating close to 400 PS. The specs for the transmission is currently unknown but being a race car for the road, it is possible that it might just get a sequential manual gearbox.
Dallara says the car will have limited production run of just 600 units to be spread across five years. Its debut date has yet to be announced.
