If this photo is to be believed, someone out there just got a snap of a very interesting model that will be coming out in the near future for our market.
For three years now, we've known that Nissan was already working on an SUV based on the Navara NP300 pick-up truck. We've received spy photography of the upcoming sport utility vehicle and we've seen interesting renders online, but this photo -if legitimate- could very well be the first time that the actual vehicle was snapped without camouflage.
According to the original source of the photo, the image was supposedly taken at a Nissan facility in the People's Republic of China; it makes sense that it was taken there given that Nissan is expected to reveal the new frame-based SUV model very soon.
The sneakily-snapped photograph shows what could be the rear end of the SUV; essentially a wagon configuration of the Navara. Given the addition or a third row with two more seats, such models are better known under the acronym PPV, or Pick-up Passenger Vehicle
There has also been much speculation regarding the name, though most pundits say that the name of the model could be either Xterra or Paladin (shown above as a render), depending on the market. Engines are expected to be shared with the Navara: the 2.5-liter DDTi turbo diesel range.
This upcoming model will be key for Nissan's growth in the ASEAN region particularly the Philippine market as PPV models such as the Isuzu mu-X (based on the D-Max), the Ford Everest (based on the Ranger), the Chevrolet Trailblazer (based on the Colorado), the Mitsubishi Montero Sport (based on the L200 Strada), and the Toyota Fortuner (based on the Toyota Hilux) have been very successful.
