After announcing the ‘Genesis’ name as an entirely separate luxury brand, Hyundai have unveiled several production models that may enter segments currently occupied by the likes of BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi.
With the recent reveal of the G90 and G80 sedans, Genesis then rounded up their lineup with the New York Concept which was unveiled at this year’s New York International Auto Show. The concept, as seen at the show, was proportioned much smaller than the G90 and G80 – probably hinting at an entry-level sedan model for the Genesis brand. It appears that may well be confirmed now, as spies have recently spotted the Genesis G70 prototype out making rounds for testing.
Supposedly contending with the likes of the BMW 3-series, Mercedes Benz C-Class, and the Audi A4, the G70 will become Genesis’ entry-level vehicle. The vehicle spotted was powered by a 3.3 liter V6 like that of the G90, however the production model may also see a four-cylinder turbo as well as a hybrid powertrain. Power will be sent to the rear wheels just like the bigger variants in Genesis’ lineup, however an all-wheel drive option may likely be available as well.
Compared to the New York Concept, the production car is toned down and has a more conventional 4-door sedan look. Also clearly visible in these photos are the LED DRL´s and the indicators that are integrated in the air intakes in the front bumper.
The G70 is set for a debut later this year, but will likely be pushed to 2017 instead with the Paris Motor Show just around the corner.
