Mercedes-Benz arrived at this year's North American International Auto Show with the 2018 GLA facelift. While it retains the signature styling, it gets minor exterior tweaks, along with a refined interior. In 2020 however, Mercedes-Benz might just reveal the next-generation GLA crossover.

Recently, our spies were able to snap some photos of what looked to be a test mule of the 2020 GLA being tested in cold weather. From the looks of it, the upcoming crossover appears to have a very imposing front fascia.

Spied: Next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLA already in the works

On closer inspection however, one will notice that the test mule bears an uncanny resemblance with the next-gen A-Class. Several months ago, our spies were able to take photographs of the next-gen A-Class being tested around public roads and at the Nurburgring. Like the hatchback from which it is based off, the new GLA test mule gets the same front grill, roofline and faux taillights from the hatchback prototype.

Differentiating it from the A-Class are its higher ground clearance, wider track, beffier tires and different set of alloy wheels.

A new line of gasoline- and diesel-powered engines are expected to debut in the 2020 GLA and in the high-performance AMG versions. An all-electric version could also be available as Mercedes-Benz is also busy electrifying their lineup.
