Remember when BMW unveiled the Speedtop shooting brake concept? Based on the current 8 Series, the Speedtop reimagines the sporty shooting brake vehicle as the epitome of looks, design, and elegance.

Despite being revealed as a concept, BMW confirmed that it will make the Speedtop into a production vehicle. However, only a select few will get their hands on one since the brand will only build a total of 70 examples, and all have been spoken for.

Fast forward to the present day, and our spies managed to catch BMW testing out the production version of the Speedtop almost completely undisguised. Spotted recently being driven at the Nurburgring, the production model of the BMW Speedtop remains faithful to the original concept on which it was based.

From the assertive front fascia to the curvaceous fenders, as well as the massive alloy wheels and the dynamic-looking rear end, the BMW Speedtop looks stunning as ever. While we expected BMW to significantly tone down the looks of the Speedtop for its production, it's nice to see that BMW opted to keep its concept design.

However, we did notice that the roof of the Speedtop is still covered. While we're not entirely sure why BMW has it covered, the Speedtop could get a panoramic glass roof to go along with its sleek design.

Under the hood, BMW says the Speedtop will be powered by the most powerful V8 engine currently being offered by the brand. That means it may likely get the 4.4L TwinPowerTurbo V8 derived from the M8 Competition, which cranks out 625 PS and a thumping 750 Nm of torque. In the M8 Competition, the twin-turbo V8 can catapult the vehicle from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, thanks to a slick-shifting 8-speed automatic gearbox.

With BMW busy testing the Speedtop at Green Hell, customer deliveries for the ultra-limited shooting brake may commence later this year.
