Bentley’s first SUV, first diesel, and now first hybrid model
Since the unveiling – and subsequent production – of the Bentley Bentayga, the luxury SUV has since received mixed reviews. Whether you agree with its styling and its SUV platform or not, it appears the Bentayga is here to stay in Bentley’s lineup – and it now marks another first; by being the first Bentley model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Our spies have discovered this particular prototype testing in southern Europe. While appearing to be a completely factory Bentayga on the outside, our spies have caught an odd extra fuel cap on the left side for the charger socket.
A quick check of the plates with the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency in the UK indicates that this particular mule is running a 2995cc liter electric-hybrid powerplant. If the Porsche Panamera and the Cayenne are anything to go by, this may well be powered by a slightly more powerful version of the motor found in those plug-in models as well.
This plug-in hybrid version of the Bentayga will make its debut at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show sometime in September.
