Spied: Twin-turbo Mercedes-AMG GLS63 hits the snow

Mercedes-AMG gives the next-gen GLS63 the bi-turbo treatment

No, this is not your regular, run-of-the-mill full-size luxury SUV from Mercedes-Benz. Underneath the heavy camouflage and false body panels reside a twin-turbo powerplant that is capable of delivering nearly 600 PS. It's the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 and it is set to make its world debut soon.

But what makes it different from the standard prototypes that we saw several months ago?

Well for starters, the GLS63 prototype seen here sports the distinct Panamericana front grill that comes standard in all AMG models. Also different is the front bumper which gets larger air intakes and what appears to be air ducts for cooling the disc brakes.

Speaking of brakes, the GLS63 is fitted with huge disc rotors which is another telltale sign that this is not an ordinary luxury SUV. However, not seen on this prototype is the signature quad exhaust although our best guess is that Mercedes-AMG is still tinkering with it.

As mentioned earlier, the GLS63 will be powered by a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that could produce more than 570 PS. There could also be GLS63 S which is capable of cranking out 612 PS. Platform-wise, the new GLS and GLS63 will be underpinned by the new MHA architecture which will allow the SUV to shed weight and improve performance.

Both the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLS and GLS63 are expected to make their world debut some time in 2019.
