Considering the fact that crossovers are starting to get their fair share of fettling from their contemporaries, it appears Volkswagen is keen to give the Tiguan some proper juice to match. A Volkswagen Tiguan dressed up in R-design trim have caught the attention of our spies as it was doing tests around the Nürburgring; And they have a hunch that this may well be the Tiguan R in development guise.

As understated as it looks, the dead giveaway for this development mule of the Tiguan R was the fact that it was loud and was making quick pace around the 'ring during testing. Another telltale would be a quad-tip exhaust poking out of the rear valence – hinting that this Tiguan bears more than meets the eye. Considering that this car was found stationed at VW/Audi’s test facility later on, the question of it being a tuned private vehicle could be put aside as well.

Given that the Tiguan shares a similar platform to the Golf, we can expect to see the 292PS 2.0 TSI inline-four from the Golf R to make its way into the hotter Tiguan as well. Bigger brakes may also flank the uprated motor upon release, but the test mule did not appear to have any noticeable changes.
