Soon to be released Suzuki Swift found testing on the Metro Manila roads
by Brent Co
We spotted a soon to be released semi-disguised 2011 Suzuki Swift earlier today being driven in Metro Manila. The Swift has been due for a replacement after its release in other parts of the world last year. With the recent updates and new model releases by its competitors, the Swift's update has been imminent in the competitive subcompact segment.
Design-wise, the 2011 model did not deviate much from its current design apart from the obvious new headlamps and tail lamps. The car is visibly longer at 3850mm compared to 3695mm, while the wheelbase stretched a bit to 2430mm to 2390mm.
The new Swift to be released in the Philippines is most likely to be powered by the new 1.4-liter K14B VVT engine (as found in South Africa), a slightly less powerful engine than its predecessor. But touted as lighter and more economical. Performance figures as follows: maximum power of 94PS @ 6000rpm and maximum torque of 130Nm @ 4000rpm. The previous model equipped with a 1.5-liter engine churned out a maximum of 110PS and 140Nm at the same rpm levels. The test vehicle we spotted was mated to an automatic gearbox, presumably a 4-speed same as that of other markets. We have yet to find out if there will be a manual transmission variant available.
Pricing for the currently available Swift is at Php725,000 for the manual transmission variant, while the automatic transmission variant retails at Php765,000. We hope the pricing for the 2011 model is not too far from this range.
