Subaru has something special to unveil at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon this coming January.
What better way to open up the New Year than introducing tricked-out rides that blend stylish looks and sporting pedigree. Say hello to the 2019 Subaru Forester STI and Impreza STI Concepts.
The two concepts will serve as the brand's flagship models at the annual auto show and could be a prelude of things to come from Subaru and its in-house tuner.
Starting with the crossover, the Forester STI has ditched its pedestrian-friendly looks in favor of a more aggressive appearance. Gone is the factory front grill as it has been replaced by an all-black, mesh-type front grill. Then there's the sporty-looking front bumper with integrated chin spoiler and canards, and the blacked-out foglight bezels that further add to the Forester STI concept's radical exterior.
Beyond that, the Forester STI also comes with a 'Fighter Gray' paint job, new side skirts and rear bumper, 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires, and Brembo six-piston front caliper brakes.
Under the hood, the Forester STI gets its power from a 2.0-liter e-Boxer hybrid engine. Subaru claims they have refined its performance but did not state how much power it produces. In stock form, the engine produces a modest 145 PS with 188 Nm of torque. Power is then shifted to a CVT and Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
Up next is the Impreza STI concept which also comes with STI goodies all around. Like its crossover stablemate, the hatchback dons a sporty look thanks to a bodykit, two-tone white/black paint, blacked-out front grill, huge alloy wheels, STI badging, and a center-mounted exhaust.
Other details regarding the Impreza STI concept remain a mystery. However, Subaru did mention that it comes with a 'Bordeaux' interior, which could mean it has a more upscale interior than stock.
With not much else to go on, these STI concepts from Subaru could be a preview of new appearance packages or styling kits for both the Forester and Impreza.
