Motor Image Pilipinas has big plans in 2021 and 2022
Compared to other automakers, Motor Image Pilipinas, the official distributor of Subaru in the Philippines, was relatively quiet this 2020. The only vehicle the company launched was the Forester GT Edition earlier in March.
All of that will change, however, as Subaru has big plans for the next two years. Glenn Tan, Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of Tan Chong International Limited (parent company of Motor Image) announced that Motor Image Pilipinas will be launching a total of six new vehicles. Out of the six, four will be arriving next year while the other two will come in 2022.
For the first half of 2021, Subaru will be launching three new models – the Evoltis 7-seater, refreshed XV, and the all-new Outback.
Also known as the Ascent in North America, the Evoltis is the company's first 7-seater model since the Tribeca. The three-row SUV was originally scheduled to launch in the Philippines in late 2020 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. To give you a better idea of what it looks like, we got a sneak preview of the three-row SUV earlier this year.
The refreshed XV was launched last October and features a minor design update on both its exterior and interior. Other than those, everything else is carried over including the engines. Meanwhile, the all-new Outback has been on the market for over a year. Launched in April 2019, it features a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine similar to the Evoltis.
Possibly the most exciting news is the arrival of the all-new BRZ. Subaru's new sports car will debut in the Philippines by Q4 2021. No specifics were given yet, but we hope it's offered with both a manual or automatic transmission. It still doesn't come with a turbo, but at least it now packs a slightly bigger 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated flat-four.
Even though 2022 is still two years aways, Subaru already has plans to launch two new models. These are the all-new WRX (which isn't even out yet), and the next-generation Levorg which debuted in Japan last August. According to Motor Image, both cars will make their Philippine debut in the first half of 2022. Before that, we'll have to see the WRX debut possibly sometime in 2021.
Motor Image Pilipinas has plenty to offer in the coming years, and we are very excited. Which one are you anticipating to arrive the most? Let us know in the comments.
