Previously, Subaru released an image of a GT wing with an STI logo on the end plates mounted to a blue trunk. However, the upcoming BRZ STI is not the only Subaru that will be revealed on June 8. Subaru has revealed that it will be bringing back the legendary WRX STI Type RA, as well.
As of the moment, there is not much specs to go on regarding the upcoming Type RA. Subaru did a Nurburgring record attempt with a Prodrive prepared STI Type RA NBR, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate that day.
According to a report from Motor1.com, the Type RA will receive a carbon fiber roof, a carbon fiber rear wing, upgraded suspension with Bilstein dampers, and Recaro seats. In classic WRX STI tradition, it is also said to feature new 19-inch BBS wheels which will be finished in gold. Do expect the Type RA will also feature upgraded performance as well to match the carbon fiber diet it underwent.
The Type RA name plate was first introduced back in 1993 on the Japanese-market GC8 platform WRX, and has continued to appear on models after that. Like the STI Type RA to be revealed, the name plate has long been used to signify it being more lightweight and hardcore than your standard WRX. Something to note about the Type RA model is that they are usually Japan only models, and this could be the first one to be sold outside Japan.
With two new models set to debut next week, expect more details on both the WRX STI Type RA and the BRZ STI once Subaru takes the covers off both cars on June 8.
