Subaru's tuning division, Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI) recently revealed the Forester tS in Japan, a limited edition performance derivative that will be available starting November 25, 2014 and will be restricted to 300 units.
Defined by the Japanese automaker as an on-road vehicle that features rugged styling, responsive handling and driving performance, the Forester tS delivers what the company states as the ultimate driving enjoyment and pleasure.
Up front, it has an aggressive styling that consists of an exclusively-made black grill with STI badging and a cherry red pinstripe trim. Accompanying the grill is an STI designed front body spoiler and silver metallic fog lamp bezels. On the side and rear sections of the SUV, black was also extensively used on the side mirrors, side window moldings and roof-mounted spoiler. The rear bumper also makes use of a body spoiler and is also accented by a cherry red pinstripe trim that can also be found at the front.
A set of 19-inch forged aluminum wheels from BBS makes its home in the wheel wells and are wrapped in Bridgestone Turanza tires that measure 245/45. Sitting behind the wheels are 17-inch Brembo disc brakes that have 4-pot calipers at the front and 2-pot calipers at the rear.
Inside, the seats are covered in black leather and Ultrasuede ® and features red stitching. The center console is trimmed in carbon fiber while the switches for the climate control are comprised of silver and piano-black finishes. Much like the exterior, black was also used inside as the trim color. Contrasting the dark hues are the luminescent instrument panel with STI badging and a multifunction display.
Powering the Forester tS is a 2.0-liter turbocharged Boxer engine that has been fitted with a retuned ECU. The engine in the Forester tS makes 280 PS and 350 Nm of torque, and is mated to the Subaru's Lineartronic CVT that has been fitted with a new oil cooler and a revamped TCU (Transmission Control Unit).
The suspension system was also given attention as the car now sits 15mm lower thanks to a STI-tuned suspension. Other improvements to its handling include a STI flexible tower bar, a flexible draw stiffener for the front and rear and a flexible support subframe at the rear.
