Together with all-new Toyota GR Supra’s introduction in Thailand, its roofless, German cousin, the BMW Z4 also makes its way to the region. After its world premiere in August last year, the third-generation Z4 has made its South East Asian debut at the 40th Bangkok International Motor Show.

The Z4 continues to sport signature BMW design cues such as the large kidney grills up front. Overall, however, it does depart from the Z4’s traditional design. For starters, the new headlights now feature vertical upswept design, compared the previous-generation Z4 and even to other BMW models. It also has very angular bumpers with large air intakes.

Also, the Z4 sticks to the classic roadster formula with its long hood and short rear deck. At the back, bumpers feature slim air outlets on each corner. There’s also new slim LED taillights which are styled similar to the new 8 Series Coupe. The metal folding roof on the previous model has been ditched in favor of the classic soft top. There will be no hardtop version of the BMW Z4. If you do want one, that's what the Supra is for.

Step inside and there’s a driver-oriented cabin, with the center stack tilted towards the driver. The Z4 features a large digital instrument cluster similar to new BMW models in place of a traditional gauge cluster.

The Z4 is available in two variants for the Thailand market: Z4 M40i and Z4 sDrive30i. The range-topping M40i is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six which produces 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the sDrive30i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 258 PS. All variants are only offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Now that the Z4 has made its way to Thailand, the question now is will the Philippines be getting its hands on BMW’s new roadster as well. For now, there is no word whether or not the Z4 will be offered locally. Given BMW Philippines has brought in these open-top cars in the past, there is a strong chance.

Price for the 2019 BMW Z4 in Thailand are as follows:

Z4 sDrive30i M Sport - THB 3,999,000 (about Php 6,600,000)

Z4 M40i - THB 4,999,000 (about Php 8,300,000)
