Suzuki Auto PH has stopped selling the Celerio

Suzuki Auto Philippines continues to expand its dealer network in the country. Recently, they opened their dealership at Sta. Rosa, Laguna, to further increase the brand’s presence in the South Luzon area.

While that is the case for Suzuki’s local operations, the Japanese brand has done the opposite in its vehicle offerings. The third-generation Suzuki Celerio, which was launched in the country back in 2022, has been dropped from Suzuki Auto Philippines’ model lineup.

The absence of the Celerio is now reflected in the official website of Suzuki Auto Philippines. This marks the end of the road for the Celerio nameplate that was first offered in the country back in the late 2000s as an A-segment hatchback.

According to a well-placed source, the Celerio was discontinued as Suzuki Auto Philippines has decided to focus on just offering one model for the 1.0-liter segment, which is the S-Presso. As more and more crossovers under the PHP 1 million range flood the market, the humble city hatchback has seen its popularity with consumers decrease over the years.

Moreover, Suzuki PH sources the Celerio from the Maruti Suzuki plant in India. Without a free trade agreement, the model is subject to import duties, which prevent Suzuki from pricing the model competitively. It’s the same challenge that affects the pricing of the likes of the Jimny and the recently launched Dzire sedan.

The Celerio will indeed leave a void in the Suzuki Philippines lineup, especially in the PHP 700-900K range for passenger vehicles. This opens up a possibility of a new model introduction to fill that gap, but there are no announcements from Suzuki yet.
