Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced through Twitter that the Model S will receive autopilot updates soon.

According to Musk, the company is "almost ready" to release the highway 'autosteer' and the parallel 'autopark' software update. Musk adds that Tesla is currently working on how to better detect low contrast lane markings on the road.

With that in mind, the Model S will soon be able to autonomously drive on the open highway and to park by itself. Furthermore, Tesla says that with the autopilot system, the vehicle can automatically follow the road and adjusts its speed depending on the flow of traffic.

As a review, the Model S's current software features automatic notification of nearby charging locations, trip planning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and valet mode. The system works through the combination of a forward looking camera and a 360-degree sonar sensors with real time traffic updates.
