Chevrolet has kept nearly every detail of the new Corvette Z06 under wraps and that has only heightened the anticipation to nearly fever-pitch.

The wait has been agonizing for Stingray enthusiasts but finally it has been confirmed; the new Corvette Z06 will be fully revealed at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Touted as ‘the most track-capable Corvette ever’ and ‘designed to deliver supercar levels of performance through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features,’ photos circulating online show it sitting on low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and sporting carbon-fibre side skirts and fender-flare extensions.

The Corvette Z06 will join the SS sedan, Camaro Z/28 and Corvette Stingray convertible to complete the cast of Chevy high-performance cars.

"Chevrolet is America's favorite performance car brand, and for 2014 we are going to offer enthusiasts more choices than ever before. No other manufacturer will be able to match the breath of performance cars from Chevrolet," said Alan Batey, senior vice-president, Global Chevrolet.

From January through November, Chevrolet performance car sales accounted for 25% of the market, outselling its stiffest rival – the Porsche 911.

This is despite the fact that production was stopped for six-months, in order to upgrade the assembly plant to build the 2014 Corvette Stingray.

Production of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is expected to begin in late 2014.
