When Bentley revealed the 2021 Bentayga last month, we were surprised to see that the refreshed luxury SUV was only launched with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. While it may produce an impressive 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque, a more powerful W12 engine would make this super luxurious crossover even more epic.

With the W12 missing, does this mean Bentley killed it off? Not exactly, as Bentley will only make it available on the most powerful version of the Bentayga simply called 'Speed'. Now, the Crewe-based luxury automaker has revealed the first images of the Bentayga Speed.

Like the Bentayga that was revealed last month, the Bentayga Speed features the same exterior revisions as the V8-powered model. From its new front grille, reshaped headlights and taillights, and updated tailgate, the Bentayga Speed now closely resembles the Continental GT.

What makes the Speed unique to the rest of the Bentayga lineup, however, is the heavy use of blacked-out accents, the addition of front and rear diffusers, as well as gloss-black alloy wheels. All of these give the Bentayga Speed a somewhat sportier look and feel.

There are no details yet regarding the 6.0-liter W12, apart from that it's present under the hood of the Bentayga Speed. What we do know is that the twelve-cylinder might produce over 620 PS, along with 900 Nm of torque. Just like the V8, the W12 could also be coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels.

With that kind of power under the hood, we won't be surprised if the Bentayga Speed can go from 0 – 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. Should it be de-restricted it might even reach speeds of over 300 km/h.

Bentley is bucking the trend with this Bentayga Speed. While some luxury automakers are going for downsized electrified turbo engines, Bentley took the opposite route. However, this could be the last hurrah for the mighty 12-cylinder engine because of tightening emission regulations. If so, Bentley is celebrating it with a bang with this leather-lined titan.
