With Nissan being one of the first-movers towards bringing electric vehicles to mass production, there’s no surprise that their luxury brand, Infiniti, will follow suit with their EV tech. Taking the opportunity to introduce their latest concept car at Auto Shanghai 2019, we now get to see what Infiniti can possibly do with electrification through the Qs Inspiration concept.
Supposedly created as a ‘preview’ to a range of forthcoming models, the Qs Inspiration presents an entirely new design language that coincides with the key feature of future models: electric and e-POWER powertrains. Created by a team of designers under Infiniti executive design director Karim Habib, the concept draws from Infiniti’s japanese DNA and blends a flowing exterior with prominent edges to define its body lines. The Qs Inspiration appears to break away from the conventional ‘three-box’ design of most sport saloons, instead having a ‘shooting brake’-like rear end that blends the rear doors with the C-pillar altogether.
Infiniti’s decision to debut the Qs Inspiration in Shanghai is no coincidence – it looks like their next line of vehicles are to be targeted towards the rapidly growing market afterall. Set to be made in China, the vehicles based off the Qs Inspiration will supposedly redefine the standard for low-emission, high-performing, luxurious sports saloons all while having complete range confidence for its electric motors.
"China has the most growth potential for electric vehicles globally, especially in the premium segment," said Christian Meunier, chairman of INFINITI Motor Company. "The age of electrification presents us with an opportunity to renew our credentials as an innovative challenger brand, ready to move quickly and decisively in this growing and exciting area of the market."
Considering how this concept hints towards Infiniti’s next sport sedan offering, we can only wait and see just how well that vehicle translates with complete electrification added to the mix.
