The E-type is undoubtedly one of Jaguar’s most iconic models. Even to this today, it has become a favorite in classic car models. The E-Type is also highly sought after around the world by enthusiasts and collectors alike. Come March 2021, the model will be celebrating its 60th anniversary. In order to mark the occasion, Jaguar is building six pairs of new special edition models called the E-type 60 Collection.
While we did say new, these are technically ground up restored models. Each pair of 60 Edition cars pay tribute to two of the most famous Jaguar E-types of all – ‘9600 HP’ and ‘77 RW’. Both these cars played pivotal roles in the unveiling of the car at its world debut in Geneva, Switzerland in March 1961.
Starting with ‘9600 HP’, it was an Opalescent Gunmetal Grey 3.8-litre Fixed-Head Coupe. No, it didn’t have 9,600 horsepower, but Jaguar claims it was driven “flat out” from Coventry to Switzerland the night before the launch. Meanwhile, ‘77 RW’ was a 3.8-liter British Racing Green roadster. Similar to the coupe, it was also driven overnight from Coventry to Geneva. Aside from being the launch models, both cars were also used for media testing.
Going back to the 60 Edition models, each car will be built by Jaguar’s Classic Works facility in Warwickshire. Each model will be based on an existing 1960s 3.8-liter E-type albeit fully restored to exclusive 60th-anniversary tribute specification. For those who ordered, each pair of E-type 60 Collection will include one Flat Out Grey ‘9600 HP’ coupe and one Drop Everything Green ‘77 RW’ roadster, with unique paint formulations exclusively reserved for these cars. They will also feature a number of commemorative design cues that celebrate its 60th anniversary.
“The Jaguar E-type is a genuine icon, as sensational today as the moment it was unveiled in 1961. It’s testament to the E-type’s advanced design and engineering that it can still be enjoyed and admired as passionately almost 60 years on,” said Dan Pink, Director of Jaguar Classic.
If you happen to be a well-off fan of the car or avid collector of all things E-type, you should definitely add these to your collection. No price was named for the E-type 60 Collection. But considering you are technically buying two cars, it will not be cheap.
