Ram squares off the F-150 Raptor with the 1500 Rebel 12
These days, the Raptor line from Ford is grabbing headlines in the world of high-performance pickups. But Ford shouldn't rest on their laurels just yet as the folks from Ram have something that could match the F-150 Raptor pound for pound.
Dubbed the Ram 1500 Rebel 12, it gets off-road goodies and a potent V8 engine to beef up the already imposing pickup.
Launching the Ram 1500 Rebel 12 into the horizon is a hefty 5.7-liter Hemi V8 pumping out a substantial 395 horsepower and a stump-pulling 556 Nm of torque. No manual transmission option is available but it gets a heavy-duty 8-speed automatic transmission which is strengthened for the Rebel's purpose. Four-wheel drive is, of course, available.
For more off-road capability, the Rebel 12 gets a factory lift kit, boosting ground clearance and wading capacity. Complementing this is a set of 33-inch tall all-terrain tires, along with heavy-duty Bilstein dampers. If that's not enough, a skidplate protects the Rebel 12's underbelly from jagged edges when going off-road. Futher aiding it is a locking rear differential to help it ascend tricky climbs and obstacles.
On top of all these factory mods is a more aggressive exterior. There's a bolder, blacked-out grill and its design is exclusive to the Rebel. Chunkier tow hooks jut out of the Rebel 12's front bumper and there's a glimpse of the skid plate as well. The entire lower half of the pick up is then surrounded by thick cladding, giving it a wider, more imposing stance.
For now at least, we won't be getting this hot-rod off-roader anytime soon. However, we do get Ram pickups in the country in the form of the 1500 EcoDiesel. While not as powerful as the Rebel 12, the 1500 EcoDiesel we get is powered by a 3.0-liter unit with 240 PS but has more torque than the Rebel 12 with 570 Nm of torque.
