Cars and sneakers go often go hand-in-hand, just like coffee and donuts. With that, it’s no surprise then that automakers have decided to pair up with shoemakers to create automotive-inspired footwear. Take a look at Porsche and Puma, for example, with the 911 Turbo-inspired line of shoes. Now, Lexus has released a new pair of sneakers inspired by the 2021 Lexus IS 350 F Sport.
The IS-inspired sneakers were created in collaboration with Lexus and RTFKT (known for their partnership with gamers). According to the automaker, the footwear features design elements from the new IS 350 F Sport Dynamic Handling Package. The result is a unique sneaker that incorporates some of Lexus’s signature styling cues.
According to RTFKT, the sole of the shoes mimics the tires of the IS. Meanwhile, the front end of the shoe resembles Lexus’ signature spindle grille design. At the rear, a 3D-printed element resembles the carbon fiber ducktail of the sedan. Possibly the most unique features of the shoes are the F Sport and Lexus badging. The sneakers are then finished in the same shade of blue as the brand’s new color – Grecian Water.
“RTFKT put the same passion into developing this one-of-a-kind shoe that we did in developing the new 2021 Lexus IS. Steven and Chris delivered a head-turning sneaker that unmistakably mirrors the bold design and impressive performance of the IS,” said Vinay Shahani, vice president of Lexus marketing.
As much as we want to get our hands on the IS-inspired sneaker, Lexus says these are one-off units. That said, don’t expect it to have a release date any time soon.
