It's already been more than two years since Honda Cars Philippines Inc (HCPI) launched the all-new, fifth-generation CR-V. But throughout its current model run, the crossover has yet to receive a special edition variant locally, apart from the CR-V Touring which gets some unique bits and bobs.
To date, there has been no word yet if there will be a Mugen or Modulo edition of the CR-V for the Philippine market. In the near future however, we could finally get it as our friends over in Malaysia now have one.
Say hello to the CR-V Mugen Limited Edition, a kitted-up version of the crossover that benefits from an array of exterior upgrades that Honda claims 'embodies youthfulness with a sporty and bold exterior'.
At first glance, the changes made by Mugen appear to be a bit subtler than past iterations. It gets a front chin spoiler, a new front grill garnish and new exterior door trim pieces. Beyond those, the special edition model also sports a new rear bumper with an integrated spoiler, a tailgate-mounted wing, as well as Mugen emblems placed throughout the vehicle itself.
Side-by-side with the Mugen edition released in Japan (finished in blue), it appears the Malaysian version bears some close resemblance with the JDM variation. Perhaps the only thing missing in the CR-V Mugen Limited Edition are the cool 19-inch 'MDR' alloy wheels that feature a two-tone finish and a seven-spoke design.
Only 300 examples will be made of the Mugen Limited Edition and there are just two color options; Passion Red Pearl and White Orchid Pearl.
With our ASEAN neighbor already getting their hands on a Mugen CR-V, maybe HCPI will be able to offer one soon in limited numbers. Fingers crossed they actually make that possible.
