Mention the name S-Class, and immediately people will think of a stately sedan that has carried presidents, CEOs, and the super-rich. Now on its seventh generation, the flagship sedan packs plenty of new technologies, a wide array of digital displays, and a curvier exterior design.
It's on its way to the country this year and Mercedes-Benz Philippines is now accepting pre-orders for the all-new luxury sedan. But does the automaker plan on bringing the S-Class Guard to the country?
We're hoping they do. The German marque recently revealed the 2022 S-Class Guard in Europe. Serving as the safest and most secure version of the all-new luxury sedan, it's both bulletproof and bomb-resistant. Furthermore, it can also keep occupants safe from chemical/gas attacks.
While it may look like a standard S-Class on the outside, it's hard to ignore the thick glass bulletproof windows and body panels. Mercedes-Benz claims the 2022 S-Class Guard is certified VPAM 10, the highest bulletproof safety rating that can be applied to a vehicle in Europe. With it, the S-Class Guard's windows can stop large-caliber rounds as big as 7.62x54mm from penetrating the vehicle.
As mentioned earlier, this vehicle can withstand bomb attacks. While exact details of its bomb-resistant body are kept secret, Mercedes-Benz says it was able to achieve top scores in all three bomb tests (roof, floor, and side). Should the bomb attack consist of poisonous gases/chemicals, the S-Class Guard is also equipped with an emergency fresh air system to ensure all occupants breathe normally.
Should the vehicle lose electrical power, the windows can still be operated as it uses hydraulic lifters. The system allows passengers to escape the vehicle or communicate with rescuers after an attack or accident. For extra peace of mind, the S-Class Guard rolls on Michelin Pax run-flat tires that can be used for up to 30 kilometers after a puncture.
With its extra armoring, features, and onboard equipment, the S-Class Guard weighs a hefty 4,199 kg. Fortunately, this armored luxury sedan has a powerful engine upfront. Powering this beast of an S-Class is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12. It makes a whopping 612 PS with a staggering 830 nm of torque. For better grip, it features an upgraded all-wheel-drive system, while a recalibrated transmission helps handle the extra weight.
Thinking of getting one for yourself? The price for this bomb-resistant, bulletproof S-Class starts at EUR 547,400 or around PHP 32.4 million. Expensive it may be, but if you want a vehicle that can keep you safe from various types of attacks and still feel comfortable inside, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard 4Matic is the one you need.
