2022 Geely Binyue facelift revealed, to be available in the PRC next month
It's been nearly two years since Geely launched the Coolray in the Philippines. Serving as their first-ever offering in the country, the Coolray has become the brand's most popular model, constantly being crowned as the best-selling subcompact crossover.
In the future, though, we might be saying hello to the facelifted Geely Coolray. That's because over in China, the B-segment crossover (called the Binyue) recently received an update. This is the 2022 Geely Binyue, and it's our first look at what the refreshed Coolray will look like. It's set to go on sale in China next month and has received some key upgrades both inside and out.
Beginning with the exterior changes, the Binyue received a new honeycomb mesh grille painted black, a sportier-looking front bumper with a gray-painted fascia, and a revised lower air intake. The headlights appear to have been carried over although Geely says they now have a special welcome sequence whenever the vehicle is unlocked.
On certain models, the Binyue can be specified with stripes on the hood and on the lower door trim. Meanwhile, the rear bumper gets a redesigned diffuser, while the tailgate-mounted spoiler now comes with a carbon fiber-like finish. Last but not least, the Binyue gets new 18-inch alloy wheels, body-colored trimmings on the side skirts/front splitter, and a black-painted roof.
The interior of the 2022 Binyue largely remains the same as the current model. However, Geely did make some key changes. These include a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen media system (the current one has a 10.25-inch screen), a new two-tone finish on the seats and steering wheel, a redesigned gear selector, brushed aluminum panels on the dashboard/door cards, a 72-color ambient lighting system, and a full panoramic sunroof.
There are no powertrain details yet for the 2022 Geely Binyue. We won't be surprised if it will continue to be powered by the familiar 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. For reference, the engine currently makes 177 PS with 255 Nm of torque and is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
With the 2022 Geely Binyue set to be available in the People's Republic in August, this could mean the refreshed Coolray may arrive in the country sometime next year. The question now is, when will it actually arrive?
