When you look at the Kia Sportage over the years, you might have noticed a theme. Every time they redesign it, the new-generation model looks nothing like its predecessor. Now, it's time for another full model change for Kia's compact crossover, and it continues on that theme.
Kia recently released a teaser for the fifth-generation Sportage, and it's a rather radical redesign. Even though there isn't a full view of it yet, Kia went all out for this full model change.
If you have any doubts about that, just take a look at the front end. Kia ditched the high-set headlights for a rather intriguing arrangement. We're also expecting a massive grille to dominate the nose of the all-new Sportage from what we can see. All in all, it follows the current design direction of Kia.
Meanwhile, the roofline looks sleeker than before. It no longer looks as upright as the previous models and it takes some cues from the EV6 electric crossover. Kia says the new shape makes it more aerodynamic, helping it be more efficient when it comes to fuel consumption.
Kia even gave a sneak peek of its rear end. The taillights look much more dynamic than the ones fitted to the current model. The rear windshield is also more rakish than before, in tune with its new aerodynamic body.
As for the interior, Kia went for full digitalization. The instrument panel and infotainment screen are housed in one panel. So far, the manufacturer did not mention the extent of its features, but we can expect most vehicle functions to be housed in there. With the way things are going, we're also expecting fewer buttons on the center stack.
For now, there is no information about the engines or other specifications. However, they did say when they will launch it. According to the manufacturer, we will get to see the whole car by July 2021. It's just in time too since the current model is now turning six years old.
