The BMW 8 Series is a rare sight to see. The few who have it already own something of a “collector’s item”, but BMW just came up with a way to push 8 Series ownership to be more exclusive. To blend both luxury and sporty flair, the Golden Thunder Edition is now available for the entire 8 series lineup.
The 8 Series Gold Thunder Edition has a lot of special touches inside and out. For the interior, BMW Individual Merino Leather is the trim of choice. It comes in black with “Edition Golden Thunder” embroidered on the front headrests. Found on both the Coupe and Gran Coupe models is a BMW Individual Alcantara Anthracite roof liner, with the rest of the interior finished in aluminum mesh effect gold.
More of the limited-edition badging can be found around the cabin. One such emblem can be found adorning the center console, set against a finely structured and high-gloss surface. The Golden Thunder features CraftedClarity glass applications for some of its toggles and control switches and also features a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system for in-car entertainment.
As for its exterior, the Golden Thunder Edition comes in only two colors: Sapphire Black Metallic or Frozen Black Metallic. Both colors come with gold color accents and are given a deeper character with what BMW calls Individual High Gloss Shadow Line. The aforementioned gold accents run from the front apron, across the side skirts, and all the way to the rear apron. The mirror caps, the M rear spoiler (exclusively for the Coupe version), and the 20-inch double-spoke M light-alloy wheels are likewise finished in gold.
Exclusive only to the BMW 8 Series, the Golden Thunder is a package that comes with the Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe, from the BMW 840i and the BMW 840d xDrive through to the BMW M850i xDrive models. As standard, the M Sport package comes with the Golden Thunder. All units of the Golden Thunder Edition will be built at BMW's Dingolfing plant, and production is slated to start in September of this year.
For those who want something more for their 8 Series, what better way to come into the scene like rolling thunder? Golden Thunder, that is.
