Meet the aptly named Toyota RAV4 Adventure

When we think of Toyota off-roaders, the RAV4 isn't exactly the first model that comes to mind. Chances are it will be the Hilux, Fortuner, or the Land Cruiser we think of first. For those in North America, there's the Tundra, the Tacoma, and the 4Runner. But don't count out the RAV4 when it comes to off-roading just yet.

Toyota recently introduced the new RAV4 Adventure, a rugged version of the crossover ready to take on the road less traveled. It looks nothing like the standard model featuring revised bumpers with beefier skid plates, side skirts, and wider black fender flares. It also adopts a new set of LED headlights featuring redesigned U-shaped DRLs and projector units. These flank the new grille, which gives the crossover a meaner look. Rounding up the exterior changes are the matte black 19-inch wheels with a 10-spoke design. The Adventure also comes with a unique two-tone paint.

Inside, the Adventure is set apart from standard RAV4 models with new black leather upholstery with contrast orange stitching and a RAV4 Adventure scuff plate. Also new are the USB-C ports for charging phones and other devices while on the move. The rest of the cabin remains unchanged, however.

The European-spec RAV4 Adventure is available solely as a hybrid, hence the blue Toyota badges. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor for a total system output of 225 PS. To properly hit the dirt roads and light trails, Toyota's intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD-i) comes standard. This isn't just a rugged-looking RAV4 that's all show and no go. With AWD, it also allows the rugged crossover to tow up to 1,650 kg.
