Off-roading is becoming one of the biggest trends in the market today. In fact, the market has become so big, even manufacturers themselves are building purpose-built off-road SUVs and pick-ups to entice potential customers. Mitsubishi’s take on the off-roading trend is this special edition Montero Sport called the Shogun Sport SVP Concept.
Unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show in the U.K., the Shogun Sport SVP Concept features a more aggressive exterior design by way of a revised grill with red accents, a roof-mounted LED bar, auxiliary fog lights, and extended fender flares. Body graphics and 18-inch wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires complete the exterior makeover.
In order to enhance performance, the concept’s suspension has been tuned in collaboration with Walkinshaw Performance Limited and Koni to match the specific wheel and tire package. The upgraded suspension is said to offer 'both additional off-road comfort and improved on-road dynamics'.
Inside the cabin, the SVP concept comes with upgraded leather seats with suede inserts and red contrast stitching. Interestingly, the seats also feature a unique tire-tread design. Other changes include red mood lighting in the cabin.
Power comes from a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine which produces the same 184 PS and 430 Nm torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and Super Select 4WD system. Standard on the SVP Concept are center and rear locking differentials, as well as hill-descent control and an off-road mode.
Despite being a concept, Mitsubishi has confirmed that the special edition Montero Sport previews a new SVP pack that will be offered to customers in the UK later this year. Considering the popularity of the Montero Sport locally, we hope Mitsubishi Motors Philippines offers something similar in the future.
