For those that want a BMW X7 without any of the chrome or “bling”, then the ultra-exclusive Dark Shadow Edition might be just what they’re looking for. They better act fast though. Only 600 units of this murdered-out SUV will be sold by the Bavarian automaker around the world.
The all-black X7 is based on the range-topping M50i variant. As such, it comes standard with the powerful 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 which produces 530 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. Other M Sport goodies including the differential, brakes, adaptive suspension and exhaust all come with the package as well. However, no changes were made to the powertrain and driveline since it is essentially an appearance package.
For the Dark Shadow Edition, BMW finished the exterior in Frozen Arctic Grey matte metallic paint coupled with gloss-black trim. No additional parts were fitted on either. Everything you see here, apart from the finish, is standard on any other X7 M50i model. BMW has added new 22-inch wheels painted in matte Jette Black to match the theme.
Inside, customers can spec the Dark Shadow Edition X7 in either six- or seven-seat configurations. All models do come with front massaging seats, heated rear seats, and the Executive package, adding a panoramic LED sunroof, heated and cooled cupholders, and glass controls. The seats are finished in a two-tone Night Blue/Black leather with contrasting seams. Meanwhile, the upper part of the instrument panel and the armrests of the doors are covered with Nappa leather in Night Blue color as well.
Optional packages for the regular X7 do come standard on the Dark Shadow Edition. This includes the Driving Assistance Professional Package and Cold Weather Package.
Considering how some vehicle owners tend to get the chrome trim wrapped to black at shops, this X7 already has all the bling removed from the factory. The only difference is you have to pay a big premium since there will only be 600 examples sold in total.
