This TRD Toyota Crown is not just about the body kit

TRD gives the Toyota Crown a new kit, chassis dampers

Last week, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) debuted a kit for the 2018 Camry which further enhanced its already aggressive looks. Now, it seems as though Toyota’s in-house tuning factory has been busy working on another one of the brand’s large sedans: the Crown.

Much like the Camry, Toyota only introduced the 15th generation Crown earlier this year, specifically back in June. The new Crown takes on a design language similar to that of the all-new Lexus ES with a swept back front fascia and and a sleeker looking overall profile. TRD however, has designed a new wraparound lip kit to further enhance the Crown’s design and give it more aggressive flair.

Going into details of the TRD kit, there’s a new front lip, side skirt and rear bumper spats which further enhance the Crown's styling. A boot lip spoiler and new 19-inch TRD SF4 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot 4S tires round up the exterior upgrades. These upgrades are available on both the standard Crown or Crown RS bodies.

Unlike the Camry however, TRD gave the Crown some functional upgrades apart from it being purely cosmetic. One can purchase from TRD a set of front and rear chassis dampers to improve body rigidity and is said to improve stability at high speed. Other optional goodies from Toyota’s in-house tuner include TRD push start buttons and door handle protectors.

The complete TRD lip kit for the Toyota Crown is priced at 185,000 yen (about PhP 89,000). Meanwhile, the 19-inch forged aluminum TRD SF4 wheels with the Michelin tires will set you back 636,000 yen (about PhP 307,000).

With Lexus already in the country, it is unlikely that Toyota will be bringing back the Crown into the Philippines. At least we have an idea as to what it looks like with a sportier TRD kit on.
