Lexus gives a glimpse of all-new three-row crossover, the RX L
Three months ago, we reported that Lexus will soon be offering a three-row version of the RX and that it would be making its world debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The crossover did not make an appearance in the Land of The Rising Sun as Lexus plans to show it to the world at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show.
Simply called the 'RX L', the upcoming three-row crossover will be available in two versions, the RX 350 L and the hybrid-powered RX 450 hL. Based on the teaser photos provided, both variants will look relatively the same as their standard two-row counterparts. There appears to be no clear difference when viewed from the rear though we do expect the RX L to be longer than the standard offering.
Despite having the 'L' badge (which means long wheelbase), the RX L will not have an extended wheelbase. Apparently, both the 350 L and 450 hL will instead have lengthened rear overhangs. If true, this will allow substantial space for third-row occupants while still retaining the RX's signature looks. In addition, the longer rear overhang could also mean better luggage space.
Exact engines to be offered remain a mystery but it's highly likely that the 3.5-liter V6 will be carried-over to the RX L. In the standard RX, the engine produces 292 PS at 6200 rpm along with 360 Nm of torque. It is then mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show will run from December 1 – 10 and will take place at the L.A. Convention Center.
