Through Google’s Open Automotive Alliance, carmakers like Hyundai, Audi and Volvo will start incorporating the Internet giant’s mobile operating system into models launched starting 2015.
Called Android Auto, it will directly assimilate smartphone functions into the vehicle’s infotainment system for absolute ease of use.
Android-powered smartphone users will now be able to ‘project’ car apps and services onto the touchscreen display and controllable via vehicle’s switches, button and/or via voice recognition.
Simply connect your Android smartphone to a compatible vehicle and easily access messages, phone, Google Search, Google Maps and Google Play Music. Android Auto will also offer third party audio apps including Stitcher Radio for Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio – Internet Radio and NPR.

2015 is the target date of Android Auto; Hyundai will make it available in select models, Audi will install it on all new models launched next year while Volvo have it on all units based on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).
