One of the most revered sports cars may soon be revived as a new-generation model after Toyota supposedly filed for a trademark of the Supra in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Based on the application itself, the Supra trademark was filed last June 3, 2016 and is still under examination. Moreover, the trademark was categorized under Nice Classification 12 which is comprised of vehicles for land, air or water.
This is somewhat a good sign of the nameplate's eventual revival as the company previously renewed the Supra patent last 2010 in the US. Apparently, the patent was originally filed in 1979 and had already expired in 2006.
Last 2013, Toyota and the BMW Group agreed upon on sharing technologies and jointly developing a new sports car concept. According to BMW, the sports car partnership is called 'Silk Road' and is on schedule.
Few details about the car itself are scarce but it will supposedly have an aluminum spaceframe along with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. Size-wise, it will be slightly shorter than a Porsche 911.
