If there's one car we're all very much excited about, it's the Toyota GR Yaris.
Ok so it's not a volume model, but the rally-ready hot hatchback has been making rounds in South East Asia, first in Thailand, followed by Malaysia. Although Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has yet to officially confirm or announce its arrival, we hoped the GR Yaris would be making its way here as well.
Now it seems the GR Yaris's arrival is more or less confirmed. In fact, it will only be a matter of time before TMP announces its debut. According to our sources, several Toyota dealerships are already offering allocations to a few individuals for the hot hatchback. The best part is, the price was also mentioned to a few interested customers.
Here's the thing though: the price doesn't seem to be final based on the info we were getting. Depending on the source, the price for a GR Yaris varied. The lowest we were told was PHP 2.7 million, while another told us the price of their allocation was PHP 2.9 million. Another said PHP 2.8 million.
So PHP 2.7 to 2.9 million seems to be the price range for the GR Yaris in the Philippines.
For reference, the GR Yaris costs THB 2.69 million or roughly PHP 4.3 million when converted in Thailand. Expensive, yes, but do remember the prices of GR models sold over there are a lot more expensive (GR Supra is priced at THB 5.2 million or PHP 8.3 million). In Malaysia, the GR Yaris is sold for MYR 299,000 or around PHP 3.5 million. Assuming the prices we were told are correct, the Philippines could be the most affordable in the region.
Before you say the GR Yaris arriving will be the front-wheel-drive model, hence the “cheaper” price, our sources confirmed it will be indeed the all-wheel drive, turbocharged variant with a proper 6-speed manual.
