Toyota Motor Corporation has long maintained that hydrogen fuel cell technology could be a zero emission solution across a broad spectrum of vehicle types.

Starting with the Toyota Mirai that first launched in Japan last year, the Japanese automaker promised their customers of a world that is safer, greener, and easier. This is followed by the fuel cell buses that will be launched by early 2017, ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In line with the automaker's plan to realize a hydrogen-based society in the future Toyota is now exploring on the heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell application in California, with the aim of creating a potential zero-emission freight transportation for the future.

Apart from these, however, Toyota declined to provide any more details regarding the study and the continued evolution of a hydrogen society. Instead, they said that further details will be announced in the coming months.
