Toyota Motor Corporation has just recently announced that they have reached an agreement with Ford Motor Company in collaborating on a system that will integrate smartphones to the vehicle’s infotainment system for future models.
“We continue to investigate new technologies that both enhance and safeguard the driving experience of Toyota and Lexus owners. The in-car app market is quickly evolving. Developing robust, flexible, safe and user-friendly connected services is a priority for us, and one that we believe is shared by Ford, Livio and other contributors to SDL technology," said Shigeki Terashi, Senior Managing Officer, Toyota Motor Corporation.
Both companies are looking at enhancing Ford’s SmartDeviceLink (SDL), a system that allows media companies like Pandora to develop a single app that an be used in numerous infotainment systems while giving the automaker freedom to design their dashboard. The Japanese automaker will be working with Ford's subsidiary Livio in developing the SDL technology for future Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
