Provides a more premium feel for the FT-1
Toyota has recently revealed new renditions of the interior and exterior of the Toyota FT-1 Concept.
Developed by Calty Design Research located at Newport Beach, California, the FT-1 now sports a graphite gray exterior while the interior is covered in saddle-colored grain leather. According to the design team, the different interior color was purposely done to show the versatility of the car. Drivers who want a performance-oriented feel can have the black leather interior with red piping while those who wanted a premium feel can select the saddle grain leather interior with brown piping.
“From the start of the FT-1 project, we wanted the driver to have a feeling of flow while at the wheel – to be able to focus on the road and nothing else. In the color studio we help create the atmosphere of the vehicle, and our aim was to ensure everything supported the driver through efficient choices. The saddle leather maintains that same ‘in the zone’ driving intention, while bringing in a more premium feeling,” said Sellene Lee, the Calty creative designer who proposed both color concepts.
Lee got inspiration from modern sophisticated materials used in creating today’s superhero movie costumes. Raised metal mesh gave the seats ventilation and highlighted the metal trim that came with it. The red piping was replaced with brown piping, which Lee alluded from expensive handbags.
“From color and trim standpoint in the FT-1, there was a laser-like focus on staying true to function. This project was very special, as the FT-1 stands apart in its performance-driven, authentic purpose,” said Wendy Lee, Studio Chief Designer at Calty.
