Toyota’s GR Yaris Rally1 has officially etched its name into the history books, becoming the winningest car in the history of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

The GR Yaris Rally1 has now amassed 47 WRC rally victories, edging past the legendary Lancia Delta Group A, which recorded 46 wins during its dominant era in the championship back in the 1990s.

That puts Toyota’s modern hybrid rally weapon at the top of a list that includes some of the most iconic machines ever to compete in the WRC.

Behind the GR Yaris Rally1 and Lancia Delta is the Volkswagen Polo R WRC, which still holds the best win ratio of all time (83%), amassing 43 victories in 52 rallies during its highly successful WRC campaign back in the 2010s.

The GR Yaris Rally1’s achievement is even more impressive considering it competes under the current Rally1 regulations, with an FIA-regulated 35-mm air restrictor from a turbocharged 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 380 PS, paired with all-wheel drive.

Toyota Gazoo Racing returned to the top level of rallying in 2017 with the Yaris WRC before transitioning to the current GR Yaris Rally1 for the 2022 season.

Since then, the car has continued Toyota’s strong WRC legacy while helping cement the GR Yaris name as one of the most recognizable performance badges in modern motorsport.
