Toyota Grand New Avanza makes global debut in Indonesia


Grand New Avanza gets significant exterior redesign, Dual-VVT-i engines

Toyota has officially revealed the Grand New Avanza in Indonesia. Billed by the automaker as a facelift, the 7-seater compact MPV features a major exterior redesign, a reworked interior and Dual-VVT-i engines.

Immediately seen up front is the Avanza's new front fascia which correspond's with Toyota's current design language. It now looks more sophisticated with the large hexagonal grill that is paired with distinct headilights and a new bumper.


The side pretty much retains the pre-facelift appearance apart from a new set of alloy wheels and new side protection moldings. The rear gets a slight revision with updated taillights, a chrome trim for the tailgate and additional stop light trim. There is also a roof-mounted spoiler which will come as standard on high-end variants.

Aboard the Grand New Avanza, the traditional 2-DIN audio head unit has been replace with a tablet-inspired touchscreen infotainment system that support AM/FM radio, CD/DVD, USB, iPod and Bluetooth functions. Other revisions found on the Grand New Avanza include: brown upholstery and cabin trim, 50:50 split third row seats, amber display on the instrument panel and an Eco Lamp indicator.

Both the 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter inline-four engines now feature Dual-VVT-i technology. The smaller engine now produces 97 PS and 120 Nm of torque while the bigger engine generates 104 PS and 136 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, the two engines can either be mated with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Safety features that are present in the Grand New Avanza are: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), dual airbags, side impact beams, smart key with immobilizer and ISOFIX middle row seats.

The Toyota Grand New Avanza will make its Philippine debut on September 1, 2015.
