Three Toyota models available in the Philippines were recognized for high safety marks at the recently concluded New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) Grand Prix 2016 held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
The Grand Prix celebrates the achievement of vehicles that have participated in the ASEAN NCAP over the last two years and the three main awards are Best Occupant Protection, Best Safety Technology and special awards to vehicles and companies which contribute to improving the safety level in the region.
Toyota won six awards for Best Occupant Protection and these are based on frontal and side crash tests with adult and child crash test dummies.
After the crash test, damage sustained by the dummies are assessed and translated into a numerical score. It is this score that is tallied at the end to determine which model wins the award for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and/or Child Occupant Protection (COP) for each of the categories.
The six awards Toyota won are:
Best Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) for MPV Category - Toyota Sienta
Best Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) for Mini Car Category - Toyota Wigo
Best Child Occupant Protection (COP) Mini Car Category - Toyota Wigo
Best Child Occupant Protection (COP) for MPV Category - Toyota Innova
Best Child Occupant Protection (COP) for SUV Category - Toyota Rush
Best Child Occupant Protection (COP) for Pickup Category - Toyota Hilux
Toyota also won a safety technology award for its Blind Spot Monitor and the Rising Star Recognition award for raising the safety standards in the ASEAN region with the Toyota Corolla (making Vehicle Stability Control and a 7-airbag system standard starting November 2016).
Also, the Hilux, Innova and Sienta received Adult Occupant Protection 5-star ratings from the ASEAN NCAP.
