Toyota introduces 2006 Vios
Since its highly successful launch in 2003, the Toyota Vios has been the undisputed leader in the small passenger car segment in the country, grabbing almost 48% of its market this year and sales of over 700 units per month in the first eight months of 2005 alone, making it the leading car in its class by a large margin. This strong performance is attributed to the combination of a fun-to-drive character, high fuel economy, and a spacious and functional interior. The subcompact passenger car that took the country by storm two years ago is made better than ever--not just to its legions of young buyers, but to a dynamic new generation of forward-thinking car owners who are fast moving up in life and in work. And ready to take it to the next level.
It all begins with the elegant yet sporty front grille that flaunts a new flat-mesh design with a more prominent and luxurious chrome trim. Get drawn to the new and an attractive yet useful pair of headlamps that combine with the newly repositioned turn signal lamps and new round-design foglamps to give the new Toyota Vios an even more head-turning appeal.
An all-new front bumper with blacked out European-style air intakes caps off the new face of this stylishly designed compact sedan – a dashing new face that only starts to hint of everything else that's new with the 2006 Vios.
Be prepared to cast long admiring glances at the Vios' side view with the bigger and more stylish new seven-spoke 185/60R 15-inch alloy wheels and wider low-profile rubber that not only give the top-of-the-line Vios 1.5G an even sportier look, but also enhance its cornering capabilities on the road for that higher fun-to-drive element.
Not to be left out, the Vios 1.3E variant has also been endowed with a striking new eight-spoke-design 14-inch alloy wheel for its own unique look. New chrome strips on the doors' side mouldings add a touch of subtle elegance while protecting the door sides from dents and scratches. It also benefits from side turn signal lamps that have been added to the front fenders to make turns and lane changes even safer. These new additions make the Vios not just more upscale-looking but more functional as well.
The sporty look of the high rear deck with its pinched spoiler-like edge gets an even more contemporary feel thanks to a new rear combination lamp design with a unique 3D Reflex Reflector that makes the new Vios much more visible to motorists driving behind it.
Inside its spacious and extremely well-appointed cabin, the new Vios raises the bar in aesthetics, comfort, interior appointments and safety. Firstly with the rich new seat fabric material made with an eye-catching accent color. And to ensure the perfect seating position for total comfort even during long-distance motoring, the driver now enjoys a seat height adjuster. Even seemingly small details like a console box lid for greater convenience and a front passenger seat undertray for extra storage and utility hence their addition to the 2006 models.
Audiophiles will revel in the superb sound from the Vios 1.5G's new Fujitsu-Ten 2-DIN audio system that plays CDs and MP3s. All Vios models also benefit from a new Euro-style short-mast antenna that provides crystal-clear reception for FM and AM radio stations.
A change in the color shade of the 1.5G's digital instrument cluster display that further enhances legibility of its already easy-to-read center-mounted gauges. Even the 1.3-liter variants undergo the same enhancement, thanks to redesigned faces on its analog instrument panel.
Because it's a Toyota, safety is always a top priority. A new addition to the Vios' generous and class-leading list of world-class safety features like the Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA), ABS-equipped brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a reinforced cabin with side-impact beams, head-impact protection, whiplash injury-lessening seats, and front and rear three-point ELR seatbelts.
And to provide the new Vios with unsurpassed security, the Toyota Vehicle Security System or TVSS, which works with a keyless entry system for added convenience; together with an illuminated entry system which lights up the cabin when you unlock the doors, are now standard across the model range, making the 2006 Vios one of the safest and most secure cars in its class.
Powering the 2006 Toyota Vios are two advanced engines. One is an energetic yet fuel-efficient 1.5-liter powerplant generating 107 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 142 Newton-meters of torque at 4200 rpm. The other is an economical yet peppy 1.3-liter engine developing 85 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 122 Newton-meters of torque at 4400 rpm. Both boast Toyota's Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) technology for that unbeatable combination of responsive power and high fuel efficiency.
These state-of-the-art engines compliment the smooth yet responsive electronic four-speed automatic transmission with ETC available in the Vios 1.5G and a slick-shifting five-speed manual transmission in the 1.5G and in all the 1.3 variants. The nimble handling and supple ride that has endeared the Vios to all its owners is very much intact in the 2006 edition.
Credit for the said handling and ride goes to the intelligently designed front MacPherson struts with stabilizer and the rear ETA beam suspension which also benefits from an incorporated stabilizer for flatter, more stable cornering. In short the Vios strikes a ride-and-handling balance that befits that of luxury vehicles. And speaking of prices, the 2006 Toyota Vios retains the high value for money that has been one of the hallmarks of this model since it first debuted-Starting with Php 543,000 for the 1.3J M/T, Php 603,000 for the 1.3E M/T, to Php 673,000 and Php 708,000 for the 1.5G M/T and A/T respectively.
The new Toyota Vios comes in six eye-catching new colors: Silver Steel, Xtreme Black, Blaze, Subtle Gold, and Rave Blue– dazzling new paint finishes that provide a crowning touch to the new 2006 Toyota Vios.
The trendy and stylish new Toyota Vios, it is simply a winner - a car with the perfect balance of good looks, compact size, spaciousness, economy, power and value for money to make it a fitting reward for those who know what they want and work hard to achieve it, yet fully know how to have fun.
