Last night, Sunshine Television, the company behind TV shows such as Motoring Today and AutoFocus, conducted the awards night of the 2014-15 AutoFocus People's Choice Awards in the Prism building at the SM Mall of Asia complex.
This edition of the AFPCA is different in that it now segregates between standard mass-market vehicles and luxury vehicles. The awards were presented by STV CEO and Motoring Today/AutoFocus Host Mr. Ray Butch Gamboa.
The Toyota Vios continued its dominant form by securing its third successive title as the AFPCA's Automobile of the Year in the standard category. On the other hand the Lexus IS 350 was able to win in the title as the inaugural Luxury Automobile of the Year.
Toyota also saw themselves going up the stage to receive numerous awards in the different car classes and categories with the Vios (Subcompact), the Corolla Altis (Compact), the Camry (Midsize), 86 (Sportscar), Innova (MPV), Hilux (Pick-up), Hiace (Van), Alphard (Luxury Van) and the Fortuner (Midsize SUV).
Lexus likewise secured plenty of awards with the IS 350 (Luxury Compact), ES 350 (Luxury Midsize), LS 460 L (Luxury Large Sedan), RX 350 (Luxury Compact SUV) and the LX 570 (Luxury Large SUV).
Ford likewise won in two categories with the Ford EcoSport (Compact SUV) and the Ford Explorer (Large SUV). The Mini Cooper won in its category (Luxury Subcompact) along with the Porsche 911 (Luxury Sportscar), the BMW X5 (Luxury Midsize SUV), the Subaru XV (Open) and the BMW X1 (Luxury Open).
In the AFPCA Media's Choice category, the notable winners include Mazda with the Mazda6 and Mazda3, the Ford Explorer, the BMW X1 and the X5.
The AFPCA is now on its 10th year and bases their awards on a nationwide public poll to determine the country’s most popular automobile brands and models. The unique selection process involved the incorporation of poll results with unit sales to yield a final overall score for each of over 140 models in the Official Entry List.
Official sales volume data for the AFPCA was furnished by Stradcom Corporation with the consent of, and upon the request by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The data covered only “Completely built” and “New imported” units that were put in for new registration with the LTO from January-September 2014. “Used imported” and grey market vehicles were excluded.
