Toyota limits orange GR86 to just 860 units

2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition is one bright orange coupe

The all-new Toyota GR86 has yet to make its debut in the Philippines, but the US market is already getting a special edition of the sleek sports coupe. Simply called the GR86 Special Edition, the limited-run model comes with several exterior add-ons, as well as some subtle interior and mechanical upgrades.

Starting with its exterior, the Special Edition gets GR matte black 18-inch alloy wheels complete with black center caps and black lug nuts. It also gets GR C-pillar graphics, a ducktail spoiler, and a debossed 'GR' logo. And in case you haven't noticed it yet, this particular GR86 is exclusively painted in the distinct Solar Shift orange paint color.

There are no pictures of the interior, but Toyota says the GR86 Special Edition is upholstered in Ultrasuede/leather interior that includes a special badge that's color-coded with the exterior. Since the Special Edition is based on the Premium variant, it gets six-way adjustable front seats, black and silver accents on the steering wheel, an 8-speaker audio system with an amplifier, and aluminum sport pedals and footrest.

Like the regular GR86 (and the BRZ from Subaru), the Special Edition is powered by the new 2.4-liter FA24 flat-four engine. The naturally-aspirated boxer puts out 235 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Toyota did not mention whether the Special Edition is restricted to one type of transmission, but the latest GR86 is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Only 860 units of the GR86 Special Edition will be made in total. This means this particular coupe will be quite rare in the US market once all units have been sold. Hopefully, once Toyota Motor Philippines officially launches the GR86 here, they will also have a special edition model available for interested buyers.
