Buying a brand new vehicle is so much easier now. Depending on the type of service you use, you may not even have to leave the house. You can do everything online – from checking out the features and specs of a vehicle to paying for it – through your mobile phone or computer. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about buying used cars, including certified pre-owned models.
Toyota wants to change that, at least in Japan.
The Japanese automaker has launched a new service for customers to order used vehicles online called the Toyota Used Vehicle Online Store. The service provides everything customers need to purchase a used vehicle online – from quotation selecting used vehicles via Toyota dealers. This will make it possible for customers to place used vehicle orders anytime without the hassle of visiting a dealership and choosing between the available models on sale.
Each listing shows the vehicle's price, condition, repair history, and more. There are also numerous photos showing the vehicle's condition inside and out, giving buyers a better idea of what they're buying. If you have ever looked at vehicle auctions in Japan before, the features on the website are quite similar. The only thing missing would be the vehicle grade.
Interestingly, the Toyota Used Vehicle Online Store is not limited to Toyota models only. Upon checking the website, there are also vehicles from other marques including Nissan, Honda, and Mazda to name a few. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the models listed on the website do consist of Toyotas.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still around, going out to buy a vehicle (new or old) from dealerships or used car lots increases the risk of catching the disease. Subsequently, the online service allows people who are unable to visit a dealer during regular operating hours to still browse vehicle selections in their own time.
For the time being, the Toyota Used Vehicle Online Store is only available in Japan. Will the service make its way to other countries? It is possible. Considering that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) launched the Toyota Certified Used Vehicle (TCUV) program in the country, it makes sense to offer the same service locally.
If you happen to be living in Japan and are in the market for a used vehicle (whether it's a Toyota or not), you may check out the online used vehicle store here. Hopefully, the Philippines gets a similar online service in the future to complement the virtual showroom.
