The range-topping LTD is arguably the “fully-loaded” version of the Toyota Fortuner to date. Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) effectively tried to cram all the tech and features available into the SUV, including Toyota Safety Sense, wireless charging, and even a 360-degree camera to name a few. Our editor-in-chief did find some things that could be improved on the SUV (which you can read in his review). Still, it's hard to imagine what more could be added.

It seems, however, Toyota somehow managed to do just that. Thanks to an anonymous source, the range-topping SUV has been given a subtle update for the 2022 model year. You won't be able to see the changes on the outside as still looks the same as when it was first launched in late 2020. But step inside, and you'll notice a few changes.

For starters, the automatic climate control unit (shown above) has been upgraded to a dual-zone climate control system. The new system allows occupants to set different temperature settings for the driver and front passenger. If you look to the left of the steering wheel, there's also a new button for the trunk. It's called a “kick sensor backdoor”, which is effectively a hands-free tailgate system. It makes it easier for owners to open the trunk, especially if they're carrying stuff. Pop the hood, and owners no longer have to manually put up a hood prop. The 2022 Fortuner LTD now comes standard with hood dampers, allowing easier access to the engine.

Aside from convenience, Toyota also made the Fortuner LTD is safer for the 2022 model year. Blind-spot monitoring is now standard and alerts drivers via a light on the side mirrors. To make it easier to back out of a parking spot, Rear Cross Traffic Alert is now standard as well.

Accordint to the TMP price list, which was updated on September 17, 2021, the Fortuner LTD did receive a bump in price. The 2.8 4x4 LTD now retails for PHP 2,440,000 (PHP 2,450,000 for White Pearl/Attitude Black), while the 2.8 4x2 LTD costs PHP 2,280,000 (PHP 2,290,000 for White Pearl/Attitude Black). It's a PHP 40,000 increase over the 2020 and 2021 models.

The 2022 Fortuner LTD is now more expensive, but the extra features are very much welcome, especially those related to safety.
