The time for waiting is over. After its world debut at Detroit six months ago, followed by an appearance at the Bangkok International Motor Show and a sneak peek at the Clark Speedway last month, Toyota Motor Philippines has officially launched the fifth-generation Supra.

And yes, the "Mark V" starts at Php 4.990 million.

Following the footsteps of the much-revered A80, the 2019 Supra (codenamed A90) was built and developed alongside BMW and remains faithful to the original FT-1 concept from which it was heavily based on.

Toyota says the 2019 Supra is sleek, sharp, and bold. The LED headlights are reminiscent of the previous model's signature design and is complemented by the race-inspired nose-cone up front. Large air intakes, as well as shapely slats give the Supra its aggressive front end. Like its predecessors, the Supra keeps the long hood, short deck design from before albeit having more creases, and sharp lines and angles.

Like the front, the rear end of the new Supra pays homage to the fourth-generation model. It gets slim taillights, well-defined haunches, as well as a distinct rear bumper with an integrated diffuser. The liftback design continues the traditional look while a set of 19-inch alloy wheels complete the Supra's external design credentials.

As far as exterior dimensions are concerned, the 2019 Supra measures 4379mm long, 1854mm wide, and 1294mm tall. Wheelbase, on the other hand, comes in at 2,470mm. The dimensions actually means its shorter than the previous 2002 Supra which measured 4514mm long, but it is wider and taller.

Inside, the Supra invites you into a driver-centric cabin that looks quite familiar if you've ever been inside a modern BMW. From the HVAC controls and electronic gear selector, to the three-spoke steering wheel and free-standing infotainment display, the Supra's new interior is clean, sophisticated, and driver-focused. Neat touches of piano black accents and carbon fiber trim, meanwhile, provide an air of sportiness for the all-new Supra.

No traditional gauges here as the fifth-gen Supra instead has an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel. It can show the tachometer and speedometer, the multi-info display, as well as points of interests on the navigation or multimedia functions. It even comes with a heads-up display so drivers can keep their eyes on the road without having to check the digital cluster.

Providing in-car entertainment is a an 8.8-inch touchscreen display. It supports the usual AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, and also comes with navigation and remote touch. Complementing it is a 12-speaker hi-fi surround sound system courtesy of JBL. Other amenities available in the new Supra include: dual-zone automatic climate control; audio, phone, and cruise control buttons; Alcantara sport seats with electronic adjust; and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Under the hood, all variants of the 2019 Supra are powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six. Sorry 2JZ fans, the engine in the all-new Supra is actually sourced from BMW and is dubbed the B58. It produces 335 PS at 5000 – 6500 rpm along with a healthy 500 Nm of torque at 1600 – 4500 rpm. Power is then sent to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels, and it also comes with a limited-slip differential. 0 – 100 km/h comes in at a quick 4.3 seconds.

A wide array of safety features are fitted on the 2019 Supra. These include: seven airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, stability and traction controls, security alarm with immobilizer, and a reverse camera.
