The Toyota Wigo is set to make its Philippine debut next month. The Wigo was recently teased in the Toyota Motor Philippines Facebook fan page with the caption ‘Get ready to live the easy life. Soon’.

Toyota Wigo front

The Wigo is the local name that Toyota chose for the Philippine market in favor of its ‘Agya’ name in Indonesia. It is based on the Aygo platform which also underpins the Daihatsu Ayla. Both Agya and Ayla were revealed at the 2012 Indonesia International Motor Show as a joint effort to meet the country’s LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) program.

Toyota Wigo rear

The Toyota Wigo features a modern take on the basic city car with elements from its current design language. It measures 3,600mm long, 1,600mm wide, and 1,520mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,450mm.

While it has the same wheelbase as a Mirage hatchback, it is shorter by 110mm and narrower by 65mm but taller by 20mm. It is also larger when compared to the Suzuki Alto, Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Eon and Hyundai i10; that is also expected to compete against.

TMP has not released official details yet. However based on the Indonesian release version called the Agya, it is fitted with a 1.0 liter 1KR-FE 12-valve 3-cylinder engine producing 65 PS @ 6000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 3600 rpm. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Toyota Wigo interior

Being based on the Aygo, the Wigo featurs a simliar interior layout with a different center console and instrumentation.

The Toyota Wigo will be produced at the Astra-Daihatsu plant in Indonesia, designated as the production hub of the model.

We first broke news about Toyota Motor Philippines coming out with the Agya 5-door mini hatchback in July of last year. We then confirmed its official name as the Toyota Wigo last month.

We just received prices and variants of the 2014 Toyota Wigo (still unofficial). There will apparently be only three variants for the mini hatchback. The starting price is consistent with our earlier reported PhP 450,000 price range. This also puts the base model at a very competitive position against the Hyundai Eon, Suzuki Alto, and even some local offerings from Chinese carmakers.
