If you browse Facebook long enough, you’ll probably come across Facebook pages which offer discounts, prizes, and sometimes even a free car in exchange for likes, shares, and comments. Odds are, however, that none of the offers on the page are real. In fact, the page itself is likely fake and could be renamed to something else once it has enough likes.
There are so much of these fake Facebook pages going around that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has advised the public to be vigilant against them to avoid scams. According to the automaker, pages posing as ‘official’ Toyota Motor Philippines pages offering such promos and discounts are not connected to TMP. They also warn that these pages may ask users to share personal information and account details which may pose as a security risk.
Not sure if the promo is legit or not? TMP says interested customers may visit the official TMP website or the verified Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ToyotaMotorPhilippines. Better yet, you can also visit the Toyota dealer nearest you.
So the next time you see one of those pages, be it related to TMP or not, do us all a favor and report it. There’s already enough fake news going around, and we shouldn’t add to the spread of it. Besides, no one’s going to give you free stuff in exchange for likes and shares on a sketchy looking page.
